Parent Portal

WHAT IS THE PARENT PORTAL?

PowerSchool is the district's new electronic student management system where we collect and store student information. The Portal is the "doorway" into our system giving parents access to information about their children. To access the Parent Portal, parents/guardians and students sign in from Charleston County School District's PowerSchool Parent Portal login screen. No special software is needed. All you need is a computer with Internet access and your own user information (a username and password will be provided to you by the school district). You may use your home computer, a computer at a public library or anywhere that you have Internet access.

WHY VISIT THE PARENT PORTAL?

The PowerSchool Parent Portal gives parents and students access to real-time information including attendance, grades, and detailed assignment descriptions and teacher comments. Everyone stays connected. Students can stay on top of assignments, parents are able to participate in their student's progress, and teachers can share information with parents and students.

USING THE PARENT PORTAL

You will need to have access to the Internet and you will need to use the confidential ID and password provided by West Ashley High School. You may access the PowerSchool Parent Portal through the following website: https://powerschool.charleston.k12.sc.us/public/. When you get to the Homepage, you will find the PowerSchool icon on the page. After clicking on the link, you will be directed to the Parent Portal Log-In screen. Enter the information below. Note: Be sure to distinguish between the number 1 and Capital I, and number 0 and Capital O.

Your Confidential Password:

Once you are on the Student Screen, you will notice the student's grades in the box next to the course name. If you click on the blue grade, you will be able to see all of the assignments for that class. Also, if you click on the teacher name, you will be able to email that teacher directly. Teachers are expected to make bi-weekly updates. If you are not seeing updates, email the teacher directly and find out why.

WHAT IF I LOSE MY LOG-IN INFORMATION?

If you lose your username and password, please email: WAHSparentportalhelp@charleston.k12.sc.us
Arrangements will be made to get replacement information.
We strongly believe that the Parent Portal will be a useful way for you to follow the progress of your student(s). If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to contact us at: WAHSparentportalhelp@charleston.k12.sc.us

Sincerely,

Mary Runyon

Daily Announcements

The Stop Bullying Club is Now Published!

West Ashley High students have published a book for elementary students

The Stop Bullying Club, by Marcus Williams and illustrated by Elizabeth Pendergast, two West Ashley High School seniors, is now available online for purchase at Bookemon, http://www.bookemon.com/book-profile/the-stop-bullying-club/100788.

In preparing students for the 21st Century work force, West Ashley High School offers opportunities for real-life experiences, even inside the classroom. Two classes, Entrepreneurship and Leadership Development, are leading the way by participating in projects that reach beyond the school’s walls. Marcus, a student in Ms. Eva Rutiri’s Entrepreneurship class, wrote his book with young elementary students in mind. He wanted to help in preventing a perennial school problem, bullying. His partner in the project, Elizabeth was in Ms. Angela Adams’ Leadership Development class. This class has been targeting problems created from poor choices made by students, such as texting while driving, bicycling without a helmet, and bullying.

This picture book features a rhyming pattern created by Elizabeth for early language learners as well as activities created by Marcus for older children. To read the book online go to http://www.bookemon.com/read-book/100788. It is currently on the featured bookshelf at the Bookemon website. The soft back edition may be purchased there as well.

For more information regarding this project, please contact Teacher Eva Rutiri at 843-573-1201 ext. 1118
