Hello My Name Is...
2011 Charleston County Teacher of the Year
Welcome to the world of Career and Technology Education at West Ashley High School!
I studied at Winthrop University and have a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing Education as well as a Masters degree in Education. Having now taught thirty-one years, I began my career at North Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte in the Marketing Education Department where I taught for thirteen years. Although teaching in Charlotte was rewarding, traveling and teaching abroad were what I wanted to do most. That goal took me to the opposite side of the globe to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where I taught at Mont' Kiara International School for four years. As the Information Technology Coordinator, I taught basic computer classes to students K-12 as well as other computer related courses to teachers and staff. After traveling six continents and exploring many countries and cultures, I decided to come home to South Carolina in 2001. Luckily, I landed a job in Charleston at Charlestowne Academy where I taught for seven years before accepting a job at West Ashley High School as a business education teacher. I have taught many wonderful Career and Technology Education courses and love them all! I have taught Accounting I, Business Communications, Business Law, Business Computer Mathematics, Business & Personal Finance, Desktop Publishing, Digital Imaging, E-Commerce, Entrepreneurship, Global Markets, Integrated Business Apps., International Business and Marketing, Keyboarding, Marketing, Multimedia, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Web Page Design 1 and 2, and Word Processing. I enjoy serving as a member of NBEA, the National Business Education Association, and have traveled to many NBEA conventions across the country including Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Chicago. At these conventions I shared web and digital trends to business education teachers in a workshop called Adobe Photoshop Bootcamp. Having taught in the Charleston County School System for fourteen years, I have found my teaching niche in the area of web design and entrepreneurship and love teaching in a very diverse learning environment, the home of the Wildcats. I enjoy challenging students to look at problems and create opportunities for the betterment of our community. It is with great pleasure to serve as a business education teacher in this community.
