Nancy Shurlds, The Drama Studio


Nancy Newton Shurlds, originally from Mississippi, is married and the mother of one child, Bliss Newton Shurlds.  A veteran teacher, she has taught for more than 40 years, and been fortunate enough to receive many awards along the way.  Originally, certified as an AP English teacher, she was selected as the Mississippi Teacher of the Year twice and the Teacher of the Year for the state of Tennessee.  Mrs. Shurlds was awarded a post-graduate fellowship to study  Romanticism in Buckingham, England, where she was able to concentrate on her favorite poet, William Wordsworth.  Mrs. Shurlds also taught dance during high school and college, and was a student of dance for 20 years.  She loves teaching school; walking to the car after school, her thoughts usually are “I had fun today!!”

Additional Information

In May, a full scale Broadway musical is presented by current Drama IV students. Please call the school at extension 5213 for tickets beginning in early May.
