Student Parking
All vehicles driven by students to campus must be properly registered, parked in the designated parking spot, and have the student parking permit displayed on the back window. Parking is a privilege; therefore, students with outstanding fees, discipline issues, attendance issues, and/or excessive tardiness may not be considered eligible to purchase a parking permit. Parking privileges may be suspended by school administration for any student with behavior or attendance issues during the school year.
To obtain a parking permit, students must agree to all campus parking rules and regulations and present a valid driver’s license with vehicle registration. Students must purchase a parking permit prior to parking on campus.
The following policies and regulations apply to all West Ashley students approved for parking on campus:
- Students must follow all SC traffic laws while on campus. Reckless driving will not be tolerated and will result in loss of parking privileges.
- Parking permits must remain visible in the right upper corner of the vehicle’s front windshield. Failure to display the parking sticker properly may subject the student to losing parking privileges and disciplinary action and could result in the vehicles being towed at the owner’s expense.
- Students must park in their assigned parking spot. Parking in an unauthorized area or blocking other vehicles may be subject to being towed at the owner's expense, loss of parking privileges, and/or disciplinary action.
- Permits cannot be traded, sold, copied, or transferred from student to student. If there is a change in student vehicle information, they are responsible for completing the “Student Parking Permit Update” form located on “The Den” (WAHS student Canvas page) before parking on campus again.
- Students are to exit their vehicles immediately upon arrival on campus. Students will not be permitted in the parking lot after school has started without proper authorization from school officials. This includes going to the vehicle to get IDs, clothes for PE, Chromebooks, etc. Students will be considered out of area if found in the parking lots or their vehicles during the school day.
- Students may leave campus only with an approved early dismissal. Students will be subject to disciplinary action and/or loss of parking privileges if they leave campus without proper authorization and/or drive another student off campus who does not have administrative approval.
- West Ashley High School nor Charleston County School District are responsible for theft or damage to vehicles parked on campus. All cars should be properly insured, and vehicle owners assume all responsibility for their students and vehicles when entering campus.
- West Ashley High School and Charleston County School District retain the authority to conduct routine searches of student vehicles parked on school property at any time. Failure to provide access to the vehicle's interior will result in disciplinary action, beginning with the indefinite loss of all parking privileges.
